YouTube Promotion: Evaluate Paid Reach Before Buying Views or Subscribers

Understand the difference between advertising and artificial engagement, and measure paid promotion against a defined objective.

Our service methodology and editorial standards

Updated from a legacy Shopify article. This guide is editorial advice, not a promise of reach, income, subscribers, customers, or platform outcomes.

Recommended next step

Compare the service scope, delivery method and terms before deciding whether managed support fits your plan.

Ask what creates the activity

Before paying for YouTube promotion, ask exactly where the audience will see the video and why they would choose to watch. An advertising placement, editorial recommendation and a promised quantity of subscribers describe different products. A provider's use of the word real does not establish how engagement is obtained or whether it meets YouTube's rules.

YouTube's fake-engagement policy prohibits artificial increases to engagement metrics and warns creators about the consequences of third-party promotion methods. Read that policy before hiring a service. Do not assume a provider's reassurance transfers responsibility away from the channel owner.

Define a campaign you can inspect

If using an advertising route, identify the campaign objective, audience, video, destination, budget and reporting access before it starts. YouTube describes Promote as an advertising tool powered by Google Ads. Advertising should be evaluated as paid distribution, not as proof that the same video will gain organic recommendations.

Request reports that separate spend, delivery and outcomes. A local training business might want suitable enquiries after a tutorial; an artist might want people to explore a release. In either case, counting paid views alone leaves the commercial or audience question unanswered.

Keep monetization and promotion separate

YouTube's Promote guidance distinguishes promotion results from Partner Program eligibility; watch hours and subscribers gained through ad campaigns do not count toward the relevant eligibility thresholds. Verify current requirements in YouTube Studio and the official help pages. A paid campaign is not a shortcut around channel review.

Record organic and paid results separately, then compare the audience response after the campaign ends. Agree a budget limit and a review decision in advance. If a provider cannot explain placement, reporting or limitations, that missing information is a reason to pause the purchase rather than substitute a promised number for evidence.
