Begin with the purchase journey

A product post is useful only if an interested visitor can find the right item and understand how to buy it. Before planning a campaign around Instagram shopping, check the features actually available in your account and market. This guide is a storefront-readiness checklist, not a claim that product tagging or a particular checkout flow is available to every business.

Walk through the journey on a phone: view the post, open the product destination, choose any options and inspect the checkout summary. Confirm that the item, price and availability match the post. An attractive campaign that sends visitors to an unavailable variant creates unnecessary confusion.

Prepare a product record

For each promoted item, record its name, destination URL, current price, variant options, stock status and the person responsible for updates. Include clear delivery and return information at the destination. Remove old campaign links when the offer ends, or replace the destination with an accurate explanation rather than leaving an expired promise.

Use original product demonstrations that answer buying questions. Show dimensions or fit when relevant, explain what is included and make limitations visible. Do not assume a lifestyle photograph tells a first-time customer everything needed to choose the product.

Measure completed purchases separately

Track visits to the product destination and completed purchases as different events. A click is interest, not revenue. Use your store's paid-order records to confirm purchases, and distinguish new orders from cancellations, refunds and repeat billing. Where attribution is missing, leave it unknown rather than assigning every sale during a campaign to Instagram.

Before launch, recheck account-level availability and Meta's current in-product instructions. If shopping features are unavailable, a clear profile link to your own product page still lets you test the offer. Avoid changing the offer, destination and content style simultaneously if you want to learn which part needs work.
