Start with the current Partner Program page
YouTube monetization is organized through the YouTube Partner Program, but eligibility and available features can vary by country, account, and program level. The official overview lists baseline requirements such as living in an available region, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling two-step verification, obtaining advanced-feature access, and linking an active AdSense for YouTube account when applying. Use the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for your channel’s current progress instead of relying on an old screenshot or article.
Distinguish thresholds from acceptance
The full advertising-revenue route currently described by YouTube requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the prior twelve months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the prior ninety days. Eligible regions may also have an expanded route that gives earlier access to some fan-funding and Shopping features at lower thresholds. Meeting a number starts an application; it does not guarantee approval. YouTube reviews the channel against its policies and continues reviewing participating channels over time.
Build for original value and valid traffic
YouTube’s monetization policy covers inauthentic, reused, repetitive, advertiser-suitable, and other content considerations across the whole channel. Lightly modified compilations, mass-produced templates, or copied material can fail monetization review even without a copyright claim. Artificial views, subscribers, watch time, or ad impressions can lead to enforcement and adjusted earnings. YouTube also states that watch hours and subscribers gained through Promote ad campaigns do not count toward the Partner Program eligibility thresholds, so keep advertising reports separate from organic qualification progress.
Model revenue with uncertainty
Available revenue may include advertising, fan funding, Shopping, and other modules, each with its own terms and eligibility. Actual earnings depend on audience, geography, advertiser demand, video suitability, viewer behavior, revenue share, taxes, refunds, and policy enforcement. Do not forecast income by multiplying a public view count by a universal rate. Read and accept only the modules you understand, keep tax and business records, protect account access, and update the forecast when YouTube changes terms. Monetization is a governed capability, not a promised salary.
