Define the commercial job before opening Ads Manager
An effective campaign begins with a specific job: introduce a relevant audience to an offer, generate qualified enquiries, sell an available product, or bring previous visitors back to useful information. Write the audience, offer, destination, budget boundary, observation period, and success event in a one-page brief. Keep awareness, traffic, leads, and purchases separate because they answer different questions.
Check the destination on a phone before spending. The advertised product or service should be available, accurately priced, and explained in the same terms used by the ad. Delivery, cancellation, privacy, and contact information must be findable. Advertising cannot repair a broken route or an offer that changes between the creative and checkout.
Build creative around a material question
Choose a format because it explains the offer well. A short video can demonstrate movement or a process; an image may communicate a simple event or product clearly. State what the customer receives and avoid unsupported urgency, guaranteed results, or personal-attribute language. Review Meta's Advertising Standards for the current rules that apply to content and targeting.
When comparing creative, keep the offer, destination, audience, and reporting window as consistent as practical. Change one meaningful element at a time and record unavoidable differences. A result from one campaign is evidence about that campaign, not proof that video, an audience setting, or a phrase will always perform better.
Reconcile platform events with real outcomes
Before launch, verify that the intended event fires once with the expected context. After launch, keep impressions, clicks, leads, orders, cancellations, and refunds as distinct records. Reconcile commercial outcomes with the system that owns them instead of calling every platform event a sale. Document attribution settings and known gaps when presenting results.
At review time, decide whether to continue, revise the offer, change creative, repair the destination, or stop. Compare the decision with the original brief and total cost, including production and management. For a related creative decision framework, use the Facebook video-versus-image guide.
What to expect from an advertising partner
An agency or freelancer should be able to show the approved brief, campaign ownership, access model, creative versions, spend, platform reporting, and decision log. Agree who can change budgets and who approves claims. Keep the ad account and business assets under appropriate business control rather than relying on an unexplained personal login.
Ask the partner to state uncertainties and failed tests as clearly as positive results. Reporting should distinguish work completed from outcomes observed. If the provider cannot explain where money was spent, how a conversion was defined, or which destination ran, pause further spend until the evidence is reconciled.
